[edit] Time zones 2009
[edit] ... until Oct 25th
- CEST (Central European Summer Time) - EDT (US Eastern Daylight saving Time) = +6h
- CEST - CDT (US Central Daylight saving Time) = +7h
- CEST - MDT (US Mountain Daylight saving Time) = +8h
- CEST - PDT (US Pacific Daylight saving Time) = +9h
- CEST - HST (Hawaii Standard Time) = +12h
- CEST - AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time) = -8h
In other words the time in most of Europe is 6 hours ahead of Eastern, 7 ahead of Central, 8 ahead of Mountain, 9 ahead of Pacific and 12 hours ahead of Hawaii. Most of Australia (Eastern Standard Time) is 8 hours ahead of Europe.
This changes due to switching from daylight saving to standard times:
[edit] ... from Oct 25th until Nov 1st
Europe switches to standard time at 3:00 on Oct 25th (CEST), which is 9pm on Oct 24th EDT.
After that CET is used and Europe is only 5 (6, 7, ...) hours ahead of Eastern (Central, Mountain, ...) and 11 hours ahead of Hawaii.
Australia is 9 hours ahead of Europe.
- CET (Central European Time) - EDT (US Eastern Daylight saving Time) = +5h
- CET - CDT (US Central Daylight saving Time) = +6h
- CET - MDT (US Mountain Daylight saving Time) = +7h
- CET - PDT (US Pacific Daylight saving Time) = +8h
- CET - HST (Hawaii Standard Time) = +11h
- CET - AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time) = -9h
[edit] ... from Nov 1st
America switches to standard time at 2am on Nov 1st (local times!), which relates to 7:00 CET for Eastern time, 8:00 CET for Central, ... .
Afterwards standard times are used and the "usual" differences apply again. (Hawaii is still 11h behind CET, Australia is 9h ahead)
- CET - EST (US Eastern Standard time) = +6h
- CET - CST (US Central Standard time) = +7h
- CET - MST (US Mountain Standard time) = +8h
- CET - PST (US Pacific Standard time) = +9h
- CET - HST = +11h
- CET - AEST = -9h
Notes:
- Daylight saving ends in the US in 2009 on November 1st, while in Europe it ends October 25th. Hawaii and most of Australia do not use daylight savings.
