[edit] Rough consensus

8 players per group, initially seeded by USA + 2P ELO

7 weeks to complete a 7 game matche against all opponents

[edit] Relation of Groups

a) Groups are labelled 1, 2, 3...
there will be 8 players in most groups. If the number of players isn't evenually distributable, groups

can have as many as 10, as is necessary. Which group have the extra players will be determined by where players fall with their composite rating for the 1st season.

top two players from each group rise to higher group
bottom two players from each group fall to lower group
b) There will NOT be different groups for different perferred times, as was originally considered.
c) Players leaving between seasons will either be replaced with a comparable newcomer, or fill in from the lower league based on league performance, at the discretion of the commissioner.

[edit] Newcomers, Dropouts and Returning players

a) Newcomers start in bottom level group
b) Newcomers are placed in groups at roughly their level, allowing some groups to have 9 (10?) players
If a player does not wish to continue in the next session, then players advance from below to fill groups as long as there are fewer than 8 players in the group
If a player returns after sitting out 1 or 2 sessions, they are placed at their old level, allowing some groups to have 9 (10?) players
chairs may announce that fewer players than normal will advance when a group rises above 8 players for more than one session.
The bottom level groups should have between 5 and 10 players. If 11 players are left over there will be a group of 5 and 6, in all other cases there will be at least 6 players in the bottom group. (12=6&6, 13=7&6, 14=7&7, 15=8&7)
At the discretion of the chair, the match series may be expanded, or contracted in order to come closer to 49 games in the event that a group has fewer, or more than 8 members.

[edit] Scoring

1 point for each game win (and 0.5 for a game tie)
2 points for a series win (and 1 for a series tie)
Tiebreaker for 2 people is head-to head. If their series of games was a tie, then we'll go to composite margin of victory.
Tiebreaker for more than 2 people is
match record amongst tied players
then game record against tied players
match record amongst all players
game record amongst all players
then number of forum posts

[edit] Alternating starts

Use the "start button"! For the first game of a match start is random. In games 2-6 the start button must be used to alternate starts and let each player have 3 starts until game 6. Game 7 is random start again.

[edit] Open games

Games should be open, but it's not a rule... players may do what they feel comfortable with. If there is a dispute of some sort, each player should open 3 games and choose the set up they like, with the last one being random in some way.

[edit] Matches not played until deadline

  • If a player played less than half his matches (up to 3 of 7), the matches are nullified. He ends last in the group and faces relegation of one division. He is warned ("yellow card") and if it happens again in a future season he is dropping to the very bottom division or faces exclusion. At the discretion of the TD the warning may be skipped and he may be dropped to the very bottom or excluded immeadiatly.
  • If a player played half or more than half of his matches, the matches played do count as played. The not played matches are scored as follows:
    • TD decides if both player or one player and which player is at fault. If none of both players ever posted to the forum thread of the group or sent a PM to the TD about the difficulties to schedule the game, both players are at fault. In that case the match is scored 0 points and (for the statistics) a lost match for both players.
    • If one player is at fault, the game is scored a victory for the other player. The score for the player at fault is 0 points, possible results are 0-4, 0-5, 0-6, 0-7.
    • The games score for the player not at fault (here B,C) is based on the scores of the matches the player at fault (here A) lost.
      • Example 1: A at fault did not play B, A won all other matches. The match A-B will be scored 0-4.
      • Example 2: A at fault did not play B, A lost against C by 3-4, D by 2-5 and won the rest. The match A-B will be scored 0-5.
      • Example 3: A at fault did not play B and C, A lost against D by 2-5 and E by 0-7 and won the rest. The matches A-B and A-C will be both be scored 0-6.
      • This still may be a slight advantage or disadvantage compared to the opponents that played the player at fault, but it is as close to a fair scoring as one can get with a rather simple rule.
  • If a player did (culpably) not play two or more matches, he is ranked last in the division and faces relegation. While the matches played may be (if more than half of the matches) scored as played, the last rank is set regardless of the points. At the discretion of the TD he may also be dropped to the very bottom or excluded immeadiatly.
  • A player refusing to play a game (read "even only one game") with no good reason ("oh no, I dont want to play him/her, I played 6 matches and dont want to play more") may be ranked last and relegated or even excluded from the next season or the league, at the discretion of the TD.
  • There may be (very unprobable, but at least there could be) situations where both players are not at fault, like e.g. if the server is down for the last days of the season. In that case the match would be scored (still to be decided: 4-4 or 3.5-3.5).
